Frequently asked questions
Getting started
ChorePoints is a chore and reward tracker for a family. A parent creates a family, adds a profile for each kid, and writes down the chores that need doing and the rewards points can be spent on. Doing a chore earns points; a reward costs them.
No. A kid is a profile inside the family, not an account, so nothing about them needs an email address or a password.
Accounts are for the grown-ups who set the family up. Anyone who does want their own sign-in can have one and join the family.
Ask them for the family name and its join PIN, then go to Families and choose to join one. The PIN is three icons rather than digits, so a kid who is still learning to read can enter it.
Joining sends a request. A parent in that family approves it before you can see anything.
Yes, and every family gets the whole app. It's paid for out of pocket, so there's a Support page with a few optional ways to help with the hosting bill if you'd like to. Nothing about your family's account changes either way.
Chores
Every chore is worth a number of points. When it is done, it is claimed against the profile that did it and the points land on that profile.
If your family has turned on approval for completed chores, the chore waits as Pending until a parent enters their PIN. Otherwise the points are awarded straight away.
Pending means somebody has said they did the chore and it is waiting for a parent to agree. It is a request, not a finished chore, so the points are not on the board yet.
A parent approves or declines it from the chore card.
Yes. Give the chore a recurrence when you create it and completing it creates the next one automatically, dated for when it is next due.
The finished one stays as history, which is how a kid can look back at what they have done.
Most likely it is snoozed. A snoozed chore is hidden until the day it comes back, and a repeating chore snoozes itself until it is next due.
Use the toggle above the chore cards to show snoozed chores as well.
Rewards
They ask for a reward from the Rewards page. That puts in a request; a parent confirms it once they have actually handed the reward over, and the points come off then.
Asking does not spend the points on its own, so a request a parent turns down costs nothing.
A reusable reward stays on the list however many times it is claimed, which suits things like an hour of screen time.
A one-off leaves the list once a parent has confirmed it, which suits a single thing there is only one of.
Your account
Yes, up to five. Use the switch button on the profile bar to move between them; the one you switch to becomes the one you land on next time you sign in.
Check the spam folder first. If it is not there, sign in and use the resend link, which sends a fresh one.
Signing in with Google confirms your address on its own, so there is nothing to wait for that way.
Both are on the Your Account page. Changing your address sends a confirmation to the new one and tells the old one it happened; the change takes effect when you follow that link.
